God made all equal, in terms of rights and privileges, in terms of standing before God, but not all have equal functions, not all have equal abilities. There cannot be two heads in the family, or it'll be a monster, a freak. With great power come great responsibility, but with great responsibility come great rewards and riches too.
Women are more intelligent. I confess that (especially now that Ruth is reading my blog on a regular basis). They submit not because they are inferior, but for accountability, they adapt, they are flexible, and then they make us men look good! Men are told to love, because it is in the nature of women to love. Women are more emotional, it's a fact. They blame themselves for everything, from clothes sales ending to world wars! Sometimes men are to submit, that's what I have learned, to eat in the restaurant she likes, watch the soppy romantic moves she prefers, and pander to her tastes. After that you can complain about the waiter, the food, the action, the cast, the crew, the rotation of the planet...that's bonding!
God gave the authority to Man. Man refers to Adam and his wife, in Genesis God called THEM Adam. When God declared that they were cursed, "dust you are, and to dust you will return", the man, realising he had sinned and brought mortality upon them both, knowing he had power in his mouth, so loved his wife he pronounced a blessing upon her, calling life, calling her the mother of all living. I'm sure God was proud of him when he did that. Most men turn to death words; cursing, swearing and scolding!
Husbands are to love by giving themselves. As they love themselves. Just consider the gym rats - what happy women their wives ought to be! Women who marry rich men for security live sad lives. They have affairs with their chaffeur, their gardener...because ultimately what they're looking for is himself, more than just diamonds and jewellery. To sit with them on the floor watching korean movies and patting them on the shoulder, "It's okay, it's okay. It's only a show..."
The secret to the successful woman in Proverbs 31? The man praised his wife! A woman always learning about grace is a blessing wherever she goes. How does Jesus wash away the dust of the feet, the daily walk? Through the washing of the Word. I'm not referring to the washing of sins, that was through the blood, and a once for all event. Once saved, forever saved. Don't be stupid and burden her with the law. "Don't do this, don't do that..." "Don't you know I'm..."
Once you're married, you're fenced in to a life of sacrifice. You're trapped! The time to be selfish is when you're not married, after that, you live the life of the cross, that of a believer. Behave, once you're married! If you're not willing to give in to her, to die for her, if you still have 2 accounts, 2 towels, his and hers, don't be desperate, don't marry. Until you're confident of her, and she's confident of you, until you can stop thinking of I, me, and my, when you start thinking of ours, our life, our family, our future, our home, don't marry.
When you love you want to give. The giving of time, of effort...and yes, money is involved. Love is sharing, experiences become much sweeter when savored with a friend, with a lover. And suddenly the sunsets are a thousand times more beautiful. Back in the Philippines I saw an interesting object, and immediately thought to myself, "Won't Ruth love to see it!" If your man's always asking to borrow money, cut the advantages you're offering him and see how fast he'll disappear. Wake up, woman!
Jesus presents to Himself a glorious church without spot or wrinkle, He didn't go, "Woman, submit!" Don't tell each other what to do, don't tell her that the bible says, read your own part. When you do it God's way, you'll get God's results. And one day you'll stop during the way and, heart melted, go "Actually, I've a wonderful wife". And lust and lust and lust. No no no, of course not. Just read Song of Songs. Poetic words with rich imagery will touch the sweet sensibilities of any female. Don't let sex be a silent show; speak words of love, of tenderness. Call her the greatest and most wonderful woman in your life, it's your life! Why allow Hollywood to dictate to you what beauty ought to be like?
And a word of advice for some married couples out there. A relationship is like a plant, when it needs water, you don't waste time arguing which spot would be best to put it in, what the ideal temperature is, what kind of music would best enhance growth. Use action! Do something, don't talk about watering the plant, start watering!
Just an additional note shared with Nezzy Chai a few months ago. Man was created from the dust of the ground, and from a rib woman was created. Isn't it interesting that for gene studies blood is extracted? And blood is created in the marrow of the bone. Because men were created from dirt, they have no problems being dirty. Women, taken from the side (refined mud) and not from the actual ground, of course, would insist on you taking a shower before you sleep. "Get up from the bed! Do you know how clean the bed is?" Paraphrased: "Do you know how dirty you are?"
The word used for the molding of Man is to lump together, while the putting together of woman was the hebrew word for intricate skill! Her beauty stole away Adam's breath such that he went "Whoa, man!" Haha, no no no, Adam knew he was ISH, the hebrew word for male. As he exhaled upon seeing her he breathed out ISH-AH. Not from the head to dominate him, not from the feet to be trampled upon, but from the side, to be loved and protected. If only God woke us up while He was creating woman, we'll understand what goes on better! Next time we want a wife transformation, just go to sleep and trust God. Didn't God cut a covenant with Abraham in his sleep? God works the night shift!
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The wife doesn't leave, teach that to your female children. Whenever she's sad she runs back. And women, don't put your husbands in the place as the sources of all your happiness. He is a blessing from God, but your deepest fulfilment is your Savior. The worst thing that can happen is when the man is so attached to his mother there are clashes between the wife and the mother-in-law! If you can't leave physically, break off emotionally. Good mothers will never complain. But if they do, it's understandable because it's a blind spot. Families are sacred, you have to tread carefully when it comes to somebody else's relatives. Any woman can be like that, but not my wife. Other children are like that, but not my sons and daughters. If you don't watch it there'll be a dagger in your back. David's loyal men would have stoned him in their sorrow when their families were attacked, but a good leader like David saw beyond their anger to their grief, and strengthened himself in the Lord.
The couple also needs a common goal. Like three points of a pyramid, as they find communion in the same object, as they both fall deeper in love with Jesus, they find themselves closer. It is possible to share bodies without intimacy, but the best kind is the two parties are really close, spirit, soul and body. And when one plus one become one, there is power to get wealth! It's a hebrew secret, you find it when you put together the word 'bride' and 'groom', a lesson by New Creation Church (the greatest in the world, Ruth's church!) Now if you're single, don't be desperate. Firstly, I'm taken (and so is my girl). By drawing close to the Lord you'll receive power and the wisdom to get rich too.
Without God in the relationship, who knows everybody and everything, there is friction and fire. Jesus is the superglue that holds everything together, even the atoms! In Christ all things are held together. Or else they'll split apart, and become the bomb. The Son should be the centre of the galaxy, not your partner. Such dependancy and constant drawing upon will weary men. Never let your happiness revolve around the guy. We're not God, although very much like Him...and although we're offered burnt offerings from time to time.
Man is the one who is work-orientated. They are the fighters, the achievers, the movers and shakers. But then they fight their way into a lot of trouble, full of stress and labor and die young, while women...they can't even punch properly. It's true, whenever Ruth tries to hit me it doesn't even hurt! Because she can't bear to hurt me. But women are full of grace. God gave Eve to Adam as a spiritual guide, to give grace to Man to make Man more gracious.
Sometimes I see something I don't like, and I go "I'm going to talk to that guy! I'm going to..." And she'll hold me back and speak so sweetly to me I forget all my wrongs. They are the calming factor, the grace factor, the loving factor. A gentle tongue can break a bone. In the bible, Abigail persuaded David not to kill Nabal, to strike with his own hand when God was the avenger, she knelt before him, bowed her head to the ground and referred to herself as his maidservant. How many times have man fallen for the domestic help in their house, their secretary? There is something about a woman who submits to a man that draws him. The more she exhibits her feminity the more masculine a man feel, to be strong on her behalf, while women who fiercely seek their own way quench the fire in man's hearts.
1 Samuel 25: 29-31
Yet a man has risen to pursue you and seek your life, but the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the LORD your God; and the lives of your enemies He shall sling out, as from the pocket of a sling. And it shall come to pass, when the LORD has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel, 31 that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. But when the LORD has dealt well with my lord, then remember your maidservant.
In relationships, communication skills are very important. Abigail had knowledge of David's exploits, of how he killed Goliath, and spoke to him in a language that he understood. She warned him, that beautiful and intelligent girl, that he would feel guilty for acting out of anger.
Verse 3 called her "a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance", that's Ruth! And after Nabal was struck dead, when the wickedness was returned onto his own head, David sent for and proposed to Abigail. The moral of the story is not to pray for your husband to die. God can turn your Nabal into a David.
Concluding. Guys like to be admired. The lady knows how to use her tongue in a way that wins the guy. In proverbs, the prostitute uses flattering lips! That's how adulteries begin. A man who has been praised for huge biceps thinks his wife has been paying him too little attention, the next morning he's combing his hair fishing for more compliments. Marriage is for life, learn to deal with people in all love and all wisdom.
